To celebrate this day we are going to go over some of the histories of this event, what activities you can do with your pet to commemorate it, and how you can make sure that you have the best time possible!
History Of National Dress Up Your Pet Day
National Dress Up Your Pet Day is a day meant to celebrate all animals and their owners. It was founded in 2009 by Colleen Paige, a celebrity pet lifestyle expert who has been working as an animal behaviorist for over 20 years now!
“National Dog Days were established to help people bond with their pets more because it gives them another excuse on top of ‘adoption month’,” says National Lifestyle Management president Debra Mintz-Reidy. “We know how important having that special someone at home can be.”
National Dress Up Your Pet Day Activities
1. Have a friend take photos of you and your pet’s new outfits
Dressing up your dog is just as important to you and it can help create some great memories! Take pictures of the two of you looking stylish so that in years from now when are wondering what they were wearing on any given day or occasion- all will be right there.
2. Use #DressUpYourPetDay on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
The internet is a creative place. Take this hashtag for example #dogfashion
Search it and you’ll see how other dog owners have dressed up their dogs in the past!
3. If you have kids, but no pets, dress them up instead.
Fear of missing out on new technologies is an actual thing. But don’t worry! If you don’t have pets or kids, there are other ways to get in on this trend without worrying too much about FOMO (or acronym-ing it). As said before – grab some friend’s dog and go wild with animal prints while the two of you enjoy each others’ company outside for once instead!!
