National Pumpkin Day-Date is October 26
National Pumpkin Day takes place every year on October 26th! This day celebrates all things pumpkin and the tradition of making pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving dinner. There are so many fun ways to celebrate this holiday, I can’t wait to tell you about them! The first thing people often do is carve pumpkins and read scary stories or go out to look at Halloween decorations.
History Of National Pumpkin Day
Pumpkins are a fruit, but most people don’t realize they’re in the same family as cucumbers and melons. This plant has been growing for 5 thousand years – it’s native to Central America and Mexico! Nowadays pumpkins can be found on six continents too because their history goes back so far; some sources say over 8000 BC.
The history of National Pumpkin Day is rich and vast! It began in the mid-1800s to celebrate all things about pumpkins. They even made a song called “Pumpkin Pie” that went viral throughout America at this time.
In 1878 there was an official proclamation by President Rutherford B Hayes, which read: Let’s observe the 26th day of October each year as National Pumpkin Day.
Since then, the tradition has continued and there are so many fun things to do on this holiday! One of my favorites is going out for pumpkin ice cream at the local shop- yum!
I also love carving pumpkins with friends or family members- it’s always a great time! If you’re feeling creative, go out and paint pottery, or try a new pumpkin recipe.
